Yes, summertime is in full swing. There's one thing that strikes terror in the new mom...the thought of putting on a bathing suit in public! As much as you might like to, you can't stay indoors all summer or hide inside while your family and friends enjoy the sunshine. So here are a few tips to help you make the most of swimsuit season:
1. Choose a bathing suit that is most flattering to your figure. If you just had your baby, this is probably your maternity swimsuit and that's okay. Just tell yourself this is a time of transition and know that you'll be able to get back in your old suit soon. Use a cover up when you're not in the pool. A sarong wrap that ties around your waist and covers up that post-baby belly works great.
3. Set a goal for yourself to get back into your pre-baby bathing suit. Why not use that pesky bathing suit as incentive? It may take several months, but make it your goal to put your old bathing suit on next season. Take the angst you feel about your post-baby body and turn it into fresh fuel for working out and eating healthy.
And if you decide to get a new bathing suit:
Don't spend much money on your swimsuit unless you're at your goal weight. You'll only wear that swimsuit a few times, and then it will end up in the giveaway pile when you lose those pounds!
Lastly, I wouldn't advise trying on bathing suits at the store with your husband in the dressing room. I did that once and it was utterly depressing and humiliating!
Okay moms, now you're ready to dive in with confidence!
